Welcome to ThePaperLayer.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ThePaperLayer, including our website, browser-based web applications, motion engines, templates, and export tools (collectively, the "Service"), encompassing our three core studio tools:

• Video FX Studio
• Screenshot Studio
• Paper Motion Studio

By accessing or using any part of ThePaperLayer, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

1. THE SERVICE & STUDIO CAPABILITIES

ThePaperLayer provides browser-accelerated motion design and video enhancement tools designed for creators and editors:

• Video FX Studio: 3D retention hooks, AI face/subject depth sandwiches, director camera framing, and audio-reactive kinetics for raw video clips.
• Screenshot Studio: 1-click kinetic zooms, 3D curved sticker peeling, spotlight callouts, and animated cursor interactions for UI screenshots.
• Paper Motion Studio: Procedural torn paper shaders, vintage magazine ransom typography cutouts, stop-motion wobble physics, and washi tape pinning.
• In-Browser Export Engine: High-performance 60 FPS WebM, MP4, and transparent PNG rendering powered by HTML5 Canvas and WebCodecs GPU acceleration.
• Portable .tplayer Projects: Standalone editable project archive files saved directly on your device.

2. ELIGIBILITY & ACCOUNTS

You may use ThePaperLayer without an account for instant creative production. If you choose to authenticate via Google Sign-In, you agree to provide accurate information and maintain the security of your account credentials.

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum legal age in your country) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority, you may only use the Service with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

4. THEPAPERLAYER INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The Service, including its proprietary procedural paper rendering shaders, WebCodecs pipeline, user interface layouts, software algorithms, brand assets, logos, and pre-built motion presets, are owned exclusively by ThePaperLayer and are protected by copyright, trademark, and trade secret laws.

You may not copy, reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, extract, or redistribute ThePaperLayer's underlying engine, source code, or proprietary shader pipelines without express prior written authorization.

5. CLIENT-SIDE COMPUTATION & LOCAL DATA STORAGE

Because ThePaperLayer performs rendering and video decoding client-side inside your browser:

• Device Performance: Video rendering speeds (including 60 FPS performance) depend upon your device's local hardware capabilities, GPU memory, and browser support for WebCodecs and Canvas APIs.
• Local Project Backups: Editable project states cached in browser storage (IndexedDB) can be lost if you clear your browser cookies and site data. You are strongly advised to export backup copies of your work as .tplayer files.
• No Cloud Media Recovery: Because we do not upload or store your raw media files on our servers, ThePaperLayer cannot recover lost local files if your device or browser storage is cleared.

6. PROHIBITED USES

You agree not to use ThePaperLayer to:

• Create, render, or distribute unlawful, defamatory, harassing, fraudulent, obscene, or threatening media;
• Generate deceptive deepfakes or impersonate individuals or brands without legal authorization;
• Infringe upon the intellectual property, copyright, trademark, or privacy rights of any third party;
• Introduce malicious scripts, viruses, or automated scraping bots to the Service;
• Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the platform's web hosting infrastructure.

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to the Service for any user who violates these terms.

7. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, BUG-FREE, OR FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH EVERY HARDWARE CONFIGURATION OR VIDEO CODEC CONTAINER.

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THEPAPERLAYER, ITS FOUNDERS, DIRECTORS, OR OPERATORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR CREATIVE ASSETS ARISING FROM YOUR ACCESS TO, USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

9. INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ThePaperLayer and its operators against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of your content or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

10. GOVERNING LAW & MODIFICATIONS

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable to internet-based web services, without regard to conflict of law principles.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of ThePaperLayer after revisions are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
